STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1901, page 4, column 2 STATIRA (BROWN) BEECHER, 31 May 1840 - 09 Sep 1901 Statira Brown, wife of Truman A. Beecher was the eldest of four children born to William H. L. Brown and wife, Ann Wilcox Brown, who as pioneers came to Otsego township in 1848. Statira Brown was born in Sandusky county, Ohio, May 31, 1840, and died at her home in Hamilton, Ind., Sept. 9, 1901, aged 61 years, 3 months and 8 days. She was intelligent and with her good education became one of the successful teachers of the public schools in her maiden days. At the age of 22, May 4, 1862, she united in marriage with Mr. Truman A. Beecher, of Hamilton, Ind. To them were born ten children, two dying in infancy, eight are now living and present at the bereaved home, Mrs. Minnie Husselman, of Butler, Ind.; Mrs. Annie Lemmon, of Pleasant Lake; Mrs. Hattie Hall, of Roann, Ind.; Mrs. Nettie Shelah, of Philadelphia, Penn.; William Beecher, of South Bend, Ind.; Frank Beecher, Decatur, Ill.; and Miss Fannie and James at home with the father. Of her father's family a brother, L. W. Brown, of Angola, survives her. Since her marriage over 39 years ago Mrs. Beecher has lived in one home and locality, the pleasing feature of this tribute of respect and service is the fact that on the exact spot this church now occupies, her home was recently removed that received her as a bride near 40 years ago, this same home has been the scenes of all her happy hours and joys, her sorrows and distress, the home where her children were born and raised to womanhood and manhood, the scene of weddings and death, but always a home open and free, with a welcome hand to friends and social greetings, a home to be long remembered by those she ministered to and entertained. Mrs. Beecher was a true wife and mother, a woman of noble christian character, a neighbor of influence and worth, an example of true American womanhood, a loyal member of W. R. C. No., 111 and its Sen. Vice-President. Many years ago she with Mr. Beecher united with the M. E. church. On her children coming to maturity her sympathy and influence were with them as members of the Hamilton Christian church. A large circle of friends and neighbors will long remember Mrs. Beecher for her loyal worth and character and their sympathy is tendered the bereaved husband and children. Funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Statira (Brown) Beecher, 31 May 1840 - 09 Sep 1901, daughter of William H. L. and Phoebe Ann (Wilcox) Brown, married Truman A.
