STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15, 1904, page 3, columns 2, 3 ISAAC J. BENNETT, 04 Jan 1838 - 06 Jun 1904 Isaac J. Bennett, son of Wm. W. and Eliza Bennett, was born in Morrow county, Ohio, Jan. 4, 1838, and died in York township, Steuben county, Ind., June 6, 1904, aged 66 years, 5 months and 2 days. At the age of seven he with his parents moved to Indiana, where he has since lived till his death, living on the same farm all the time. On the 14th day of August, 1862, he was united in marriage to Sarah J. Fetterhoff, with whom he has lived a happy, useful life. In early manhood deceased united with the Methodist Episcopal church in which fellowship he remained for about ten years after which he and Mrs. Bennett were baptized into Christ by D. C. Hanselman. By virtue or his baptism he became a member of Christ's body which is His church and died in this fellowship. Deceased served as a deacon, and as an elder for a number of years in the North Scott congregation where he was baptized. He is said to have been faithful in both offices. He transferred his membership to the Metz congregation in later years where he held his fellowship at time of his death. Some time in March, two years ago he was stricken with what was thought to be a slight paralysis from which he seemed to readily recover. In the following January, however, another attack prostrated him, and while he has since been able to be up most of the time he was daily a sufferer and a third stroke caused his death. Deceased has never been blessed with children of his own in his house, and who has since been one of his household, he has loved as his own child and the child has loved him as a father. Deceased had two sisters and three brothers who went before him into the spirit land. One sister, one brother, the wife and his son by affection, remain to mourn the departure of one near and dear to them. His nearest friends believe he has "Fought the good fight, that he has finished his course, that he has kept the faith and that there is a crown of righteousness for him." "We can not bring him back but we can go to him." Funeral services were conducted by H. L. Veach, assisted by Rev. Carpenter of Fremont at the Powers Church. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Isaac J.
