STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1880, p.5, c.3 Item #1, p.8, c.4; Item #2, p.8. c.1; Item #3, p.8, c.1; Item #4, p.8, c.2. LYDIA ANN (FIFER) BIERY, 27 Aug 1845 - 25 Aug 1880 The subject of this sketch, Lydia Ann, daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Fifer and wife of Dr. T. E. Biery, was born in Knox township, Columbiana county, Ohio, August 27, 1845. In 1862 she removed with her parents to this county. She was married to him who now so deeply mourns her loss, March 30, 1865, at her parent's residence. Immediately after her marriage she returned to the place of her birth, living there and in Mahoning county until 1875, when she returned to this county accompanied by her family, where she has resided ever since. She was the mother of seven children, all now living, the youngest about eighteen months old. As a daughter she was dutiful; as a wife she was most faithful and loving; as a mother she was devotedly attached to her children and ministered unto them in season and out of season as became a good mother; as a neighbor she was ever obliging; as a housekeeper she was noted for her unremitting industry, her hands knowing no idleness; she not only "looked well to the affairs of her household," but largely assisted in the picture gallery, where she proved quite skillful, and as late as the Saturday before she died she finished over one hundred ferrotypes which her husband had taken that day. Besides all this work of her own, she was often helping neighbors and friends in the fashioning of a garment or at the bedside of the sick. It can truly be said of her, "she hath done what she could." For about two months before her decease she was somewhat indisposed, but on the morning of the 23d ult., she was taken with a violent chill and severe pains in the back, head and limbs, followed by an extremely high fever and intense thirst, and in a few hours she turned an intensely dark yellow. She soon succumbed to the terrible ravages of the disease, though retaining full possession of her mental faculties to the end. At half past one o'clock on the morning of the 25th ult., she quietly breathed her last, ready to meet her loving Savior, her eyes still fixed upon her beloved ones who received benedictions from her dying lips. On the 26th, at three o'clock, her remains were laid to rest at Pleasant Lake, followed by a large circle of relatives and a host of friends, Elder Hickmott officiating.
