STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 1900, pg.3l, col.5 WILLIAM BROOKS, 08 Apr 1822 - 25 Nov 1900 William Brooks was born in Derbyshire, England, April 8, 1822, and when eight years of age came to america and settled in New York state, and in 1836, settled in York township, Steubern county, Indiana, and in 1848 was joined in marriage with Mary P. Richmond, who died April 21, 1900, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 17 days. He had been a sufferer for twenty-five years, and no one thought he would live so long. His death, though of course sad to his family and friends, was nevertheless a relief, and his body now rests beside that of his companion of over fifty years in the Powers cemetery. Brooks, 30 Jun 1849 - 23 Mar 1854. Lurania A. Brooks, 21 Jul 1852 - 01 May 1854. Frank E. Brooks, 26 Feb 1856 - 17 May 1927, married 1st, Lola A. (Powers) Brooks, 15 Feb 1861 - 18 Apr 1895, daughter of Calvin `Put' Powers and Nancy Jane (Clark) Powers. Married 2nd, Mrs. Emma Ziegler Brooks, no dates and burial place unknown to this writer. Luretta (Brooks) Kellogg, 1859 - 1911, married Alonzo Kellogg, 27 Jan 1862 - 04 Jan 1893. Sarah E. (Brooks) McClellan, 21 Oct 1864 - 12 Oct 1890, 1st wife of John H. McClellan, 1864 - 1911, buried at Circle Hill, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. All of the above are buried at Powers Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana, except Emma Ziegler Brooks and John H. McClellan. Siblings of William Brooks: Ann (Brooks) Sisson, 13 Jun 1817 - 24 May 1904, married Ormund Sisson, 18 Mar 1810 - 21 Jun 1890, son of Abraham and Amy (Cole) Sisson. Buried at Powers Cemetery. George Brooks, 08 Jul 184 - 11 Dec 1905, married Jane (Burk) Brooks, 21 Apr 1828 - 21 Feb 1901, buried at Powers Cemetery. Thomas Brooks, 18 Sep 1826 - 25 Oct 1902, married Catherine (Gay) Brooks. Henry E. Brooks, 11 Aug 1830 - 19 Sep 1862, enlisted in the 129th Indian Infantry and died during the Civil War in Tennessee. He married Barbara Ann (Douglas) Brooks Vaughn, 1836 - 1925, buried at Powers Cemetery. Samuel S. Brooks, 02 May 1833 - 1921, married Elizabeth S. (Cooper) Brooks, 05 Jul 1829 - 29 May 1925, daughter of William and Lucy (Thomas) Cooper. Buried at Powers Cemetery. Francis (Frank) Brooks, 1839 - 1861, 1st white child born in York Township, enlisted in Co. A., 44th Indiana Infantry, and died at Fort Wayne, Indiana. Buried at Powers Cemetery. Martha (Brooks) Brunk married James Brunk, died in Williams County, Ohio.
