KAY LASH COLLECTION OF OBITUARIES, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA, ARTICLE PUBLISHED 16 Sep 1896 ELIZABETH CURKENDOL (WILSON) BROWN, 22 Jan 1826 - 09 Sep 1896 Elizabeth Curkendol Wilson was born in Plymouth, Richland county, Ohio, Jan. 22, 1826, and died at her home in Salem township, Steuben county, Ind., Sept. 9, 1896, aged 70 years, 7 months and 17 days. Her pastor, Rev. West, officiated at the funeral and preached from the text, "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age like as a shock of corn cometh in his season.: Job, V:25. In 1836 her father, John Wilson, moved his family to Steuben county, Ind., and entered a piece of land in Salem township near the Block church. It is now known as the Loughray farm. When Elizabeth was sixteen her mother died leaving her the care of the family which consisted of the father, eight girls and three boys. April 22, 1847, she was married to Samuel Wright Brown, and moved to the farm where she lived the remainder of her life. To this union were born five sons and one daughter. The sons preceded her to the better land while in childhood and youth. At the age of eightern she accepted Christ as her Savior, uniting with the Presbyterian church, in which in connection with the Sunday school she was a faithful worker until her affliction some five years ago when she had a stroke of paralysis from which she never fully recovered, being obliged to be moved in an invalid chair. A year ago she was present at communion at the close of the revival held at the Block church by Rev. Akeman. Many who read this and who are now in other states will look back to the Lord's days they have been under her instruction as day by day along her way the seeds of promise cast that ripened grain from hill and plain he gathered home at last. At her death she left as near relatives a husband, daughter, two grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Edd Shepardson, of Mongo, but who is absent in California, and one brother, Harvey Wilson, of Lexington, Ind. During her years of affliction no complaint was made, but all was for the best, then let us look up with the visionary eye and behold her surrounded by those who were dear to her on earth, and as she reaches forth, while her Savior guides her hand, she scrolls as it were like a rainbow in letters of gold that all might know her heart's desire, "Meet Me Here."
