ELIZABETH (WRIGHT) BROWN, 24 Oct 1790 - 28 Oct 1880 DIED---BROWN--In Salem township, October 28, 1880, Mrs. Betsy Brown, aged 90 years and 4 days. The deceased, whose maiden name was Betsy Wright, was married to George Brown in Columbia county, New York, March 27, 1808. She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom still survive. She was grandmother to 63, and greatgrandmother to 67 children. Five of her children were present at her death. Mr. and Mrs. Brown removed to Lagrange county in this state in October 1835, and subsequently removed into Salem township, this county. For more than 75 years Mr.(?) Brown had been a member of the Presbyterian church in Salem, the sermon being preached by Rev. T. E. Hughes, of Lagrange. The remains were interred beside those of her husband in the cemetery at Flint. Mr. Brown was born in Olford, Mass., Feb. 8, 1786. He was a soldier in the war of 1812. He died in Salem township, Dec. 23, 1844. He built the first frame house erected in Angola, for a man named Thos. Gale, in 1836. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Elizabeth/Betsy (Wright) Brown, 24 Oct 1790 - 28 Oct 1880, married George Brown, 08 Feb 1786 - 23 Dec 1844. They are buried at Flint Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. According to a note by Audree Seibel Lewis in the "Cemeteries of Steuben County, 1990," page 2004, "Abigail (_____) Wright, may have been the mother of Elizabeth Wright Brown, Mrs. George Brown, 1790-1844, who is on lot 24, Sec.C at FLINT cemetery, and of Jeptha Wright, 1787 - 1873, who is buried at WRIGHT cemetery. This would make Abigail the first of this Wright family in the county. Her inscription however, is on a PARMALEE monument together with those of three Parmalee children." SOME OF ELIZABETH AND GEORGE'S CHILDREN: Charlotte E. (Brown) Lee Stocker, 04 Aug 1815 - 12 Dec 1890. She married 1st. Clark Lee who died about 2 years after their marriage. On 11 Jul 1839, she married George Stocker who died in 1895 and is buried in Iowa. Charlotte is buried at Flint Cemetery. Maria Phebe (Brown) Moore Crummell, 10 Apr 1819 - 26 Jan 1845, who 1st married Osia Moore who died 26 Sep 1838, aged 30 years. On 21 Nov 1839, she married Benjamin Crummell, 12 Feb 1792 - 01 May 1849. His 1st wife was Nancy (Bacon) Crummell, 26 Jan 1806 - 19 Jul 1838. They are all buried at Flint Cemetery. Samuel Wright Brown, 18 Mar 1823 - 21 Mar 1899, married Elizabeth Cuckendol (Wilson) Brown, 22 Jan 1826 - 09 Sep 1896. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Wilson, 06 Feb 1800 - 03 Nov 1880, and Dinah (Bodley) Wilson, 29 Apr 1803 - 01 Dec 1843. They are all buried at Flint Cemetery. BROTHER: Jeptha Wright who died 28 Jun 1873, aged 85 years, 11 months and 28 days, married 1st, Betsey (Emerson) Wright who died 19 May 1848, aged 61 years, 5 months and 22 days. His 2nd wife was Phebe (____) Seymour Wright who died 06 Mar 1872, aged 59 years and 3 months, widow of John Seymour, his burial place unknonwn. Jeptha, Betsey and Phebe are buried at Wright Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.
