KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA. PUBLISHED IN THE STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 1916 HATTIE M. (JOHNSON) STAGE BROWN, 29 Apr 1865 - 27 May 1916 HATTIE M. BROWN was born in Jackson township, Steuben County, Indiana, April 29, 1865. She was the youngest daughter of John M. and Mary Ann Johnson. On May 30, 1883, she was united in marriage to Horace F. Stage. Their married life lasted 25 years. Eight children were born to them, six of these dying in infancy; one son, John G. lived to the age of 19 years, and one son, Ora D., still survives. Death claimed Mr. Stage March 21, 1908. March 10, 1910, Mrs. Stage was married to Maurice M. Brown. One year ago last August they left the farm and moved to Angola, where they resided until Mrs. Brown's demise. Her health had not been good for a long time. About three months ago she was compelled to take to her bed and from that time she gradually grew worse, until last Saturday evening when her spirit went home. She was 51 years and 21 days old. She formerly was a member of the Disciple church. Six years ago she and her husband united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Flint, and they transferred their membership to this church when they became residents of Angola. She was a most patient sufferer and was always solicitous lest too much sacrifice should be made in her interest. She leaves to mourn her departure, a husband, one son, Ora D. Stage, three brothers, George Johnson, of Fremont, Ind., Frank Johnson, of Battle Creek, Mich., and Edward Johnson, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Mrs. Sarah A. Hyatt, of Page, Ind., and Mrs. C. E. Hanselman, who joined the family in tender and patient service at her bedside during the last eleven weeks. (Picture included with obituary) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Hattie M.
