MARY BROWN ANSWERS LAST SUMMONS Died Thursday at Her Home After Long Illness from Cancer Mrs. Mary Ann (Crain) Brown, wife of Grover C. Brown, died at her home in Hamilton last Thursday after several months suffering from cancer. Mrs. Brown had been very poorly for several weeks and had suffered much from the ravages of the disease. All was done during that time to make her as comfortable as possible until death came to relieve her. A large crowd of relatives and friends paid their last respects when they attended the funeral services which were held in the Methodist church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. Donald Jennings. Burial was made in the Hamilton cemetery. OBITUARY Mary Ann (Crain) Brown, daughter of Leander T. and Mary A. Crain was born on a farm in Franklin township, DeKalb county, Indiana, June 6, 1885. She received her education at the Houlton school and the Pleasant Lake public schools. At the age of four her mother departed leaving the father and four children. In 1892, her father remarried to Martha George. Great sorrow entered their home again when her step-mother died. Her life was spent in Franklin township, DeKalb county, until 1901 when her father bought a farm near Pleasant Lake, Ind. She remained there until twenty years of age when she married Grover C. Brown of Hamilton, Ind., on Jun 18th, 1905, at which place she spent the remainder of her life. To this union was born five children, three boys and two girls, the youngest, a boy, James Kenneth, preceded her in death. She was an active member of the Eastern Star lodge. She was a faithful, devoted and dutiful wife and mother, always thoughtful, kind and willing to sacrifice which seemed to be her theme in life. She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, Grover C. Brown, four children, Oliver Perry Brown of Hamilton, Mildred Ann Hoyer of Pleasant Lake, Jessie Alvada LaRowe of Hamilton, Leander Timothy Brown of Hamilton, and John Lyle Crain of Ashley, Ind., who she mothered from three months old until nine years of age, two brothers and one sister and many relatives and friends. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Mary Ann (Crain) Brown, 06 Jun 1885 - 11 May 1933, daughter of Leander Crain and his 1st wife, Mary A. (Fee) Crain, who died Feb 1890 at the age of 41 years, 8 months and 24 days. Mary Ann married Grover Cleveland Brown, 1884 - 28 Sep 1945, son of Oliver P. Brown, 17 Aug 1857 - 1924, and Elva Jane (Pifer) Brown, 1866 - 145 Jul 1943. All the above are buried at Hamilton Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILDREN: James Kenneth Brown, 1914, buried at Hamilton Cemetery. Mildred Ann (Brown) Hoyer, 23 Sep 1907 - 05/06 Aug 1981, married Wayne D. Hoyer, 21 Dec 1903 - 14 Jul 1969, son of Hayes W. Hoyer, 01 Dec 1877 - 22 May 1970, and Emma Lavina (Dayhuff) Hoyer, 1879 - 20 Jul 1963. They are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steuben Coounty, Indiana.
