STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5, 1899, page 1, column 6 SAMUEL WRIGHT BROWN, 18 Mar 1823 - 21 Mar 1899 (picture included) The subject of the above sketch died at his home in Salem township, Steuben county, Indiana, March 21, 1899, after a brief illness, aged 76 years and 2 days. With his father's family, he came from the state of New York to this county in 1836, and had lived since that time in the same neighborhood. After a married life of more than half a century, his wife, Elizabeth Wilson Brown passed to the better land. Their five sons died in childhood and the only daughter, Mrs. I. S. Parsell, remains to feel the loss of the father. Since young manhood he has been a member of the Presbyterian church. Quiet in manner, but abounding in good deeds; of few words, but with a sympathy as broad as human sorrow and suffering; living in his daily life the teachings of the Christ. He will be missed in the home and neighborhood. Not one is left to take his place. The funeral was at the Block church, Wednesday, March 22, conducted by Rev. F. M. Kemper, of Angola.
