WILLIAM HENRY LIVINGSTON BROWN, 16 Nov 1812 - 11 Sep 1880 BROWN.---Of heart disease, Sept. 11, 1880, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Jesse H. Carpenter, Angola, Ind., William H. L. Brown, nearly 68 years of age. Mr. Brown had experienced the early hardships and fortunes of pioneer life both in Ohio and Indiana. Born near Batavia, N.Y., in 1812; came to Sandusky county, Ohio, in 1830; married Phebe A. Wilcox, of the same county, in 1838; came to Otsego township, Steuben county, in 1848. He was the father of four children, three of whom are living. He lost his wife in 1866. Deceased enjoyed an enviable reputation as a neighbor and citizen, ever ready to succor and aid the needy or distressed, having the confidence of all in advice and in charge of public trust from time to time. His reputation for pure, unadulterated honesty, firmness of principles of right and manhood were recognized and depended upon: these characteristics of Mr. Brown were proverbial. Their burial place unknown. CHILDREN: Statira (Brown) Beecher, 31 May 1840 - 09 Sep 1901, on 04 May 1862, married Truman A. Beecher Jr., 25 May 1837 - 13 May 1922. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Truman was the son of Truman Beecher Sr., and Hannah (Sloane) Beecher. Frances May (Brown) Carpenter, 11 Feb 1843 - 31 Mar (May in familysearch.org) 1893, on 29 Sep 1870, became the 1st wife of Jesse H. Carpenter, 12 Jul 1838 - 1905. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. In 1861 Jesse volunteered in defense of the Union; was mustered into the United States Marine Artillery service with Burnside's expedition, and served a year and a half. Immediately after his discharge, he enlisted in the engineer Corps, and was appointed a Lieutenant in the same. Jesse Carpenter's 2nd wife was Susan Cynthia (Dutter) Truesdell Carpenter, 25 Jun 1849 - 18 Mar 1924, widow of Samuel B. Truesdell, 23 Sep 1843 - 28 Dec 1877. Susan was the daughter of Henry and Sylvia Dutter. Samuel served with Co. E, 74th Ind., Inf. during the Civil War. Livingston W. Brown, 20 Sep 1854 - 18 Sep 1924, on 19 Nov 1876, married Carrie S. (Carpenter) Brown, 1854 - 1947. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. Isabel Brown died before 1885. Jesse H. Carpenter and Carrie S. (Carpenter) Brown are children of Rev. Harlow J. Carpenter, 29 Jun 1813 - 30 Apr 1883, and Fanny (Merry) Carpenter, 02 Dec 1813 - 07 Mar 1892.
