STEUBEN REPULICAN, WEDNESDAY, 14 JAN 1891, pg. 4, col. 5 WILLIAM ORVILLE BROWN, 31 Jul 1823 - 05 Jan 1891 OBITUARY William Orville Brown was born in Tioga county, Pennsylvania, July 31, 1823; died at his home near Angola, January 5, 1891. He moved with his parents when a boy to Fulton County, Ohio, where he spent about half of his life. About twenty-four years ago he moved to Steuben county, settling at Salem Center, where he spent the remainder of his life, excepting the last four years which he spent near Angola. He was the father of three children, one of whom, with his devoted companion, preceded him to the spirit land. A son and daughter survive him who deeply mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. He was a member of the M. E. church for over thirty years. He was a man of pious life, of deep convictions and a liberal supporter of the Gospel. In his last hours he was enabled to pillow his head on the promises of the Gospel in which he had believed for so many years. Exulting in the triumph of a living faith he spoke in the language of the sainted Isaac Watts: "Jesus can make a dying bed Feel soft as down pillows are, While on his breast I lean my head, And breathe my life out sweetly there." The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Salem Center, Rev. J. A. Beatty officiating. Submitted by Mona Hilden-Beckwith e-mail: hilbeck123@att.net
