KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY, ANGOLA, STEUBEN COUNTY, INDIANA EFFIE MATILDA (FISHER) BRUGH, 27 Jan 1851 - 29 Jan 1906 Mrs. Julia Deubner of Kendallville who has been here caring for her sister, Mrs. Brugh, returned home Wednesday of last week. Effie Matilda Brugh died Jan. 229, 1906 after an illness of six weeks, aged 55 years and 2 days. She was married to Allen Brugh in 1885, and to them was born one son, Jay B. She leaves one son, three sisters and three brothers besides other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Walters, assisted by Rev. Hall. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Effie Matilda (Fisher) Brugh, 27 Jan 1851 - 29 Jan 1906, who, on 27 Apr1884 in Steuben County, IN., married Allen A. Brugh, 19 Nov 1854 - 17 Aug 1898. Allen A. Burgh was a son of George Brugh, 31 Dec 1813 - 24 Sep 1856, and Cathern/Catherine (Clemens) Brugh, 16 Jun 1815 - 26 Jun 1899. They were married 24 May 1838 in Huron County, Ohio. Audree Seibel Lewis said her name was Cathern. In Audree Seibel Lewis' "Cemeteries of Steuben County, IN, 1990" page 234 has this explanation of their burial places. "Cathern is at Circle Cemetery at Hudson (Steuben County, IN) with her son, Allen. Her husband, George, is buried at Trinitiy (Cemetery) with their daughter, Almira E., both having died in Sept. 1856 within ten days of each other. Two of Effie's sisters are: Myra (Fisher) Ackerman, born about 1854, who on 28 Dec 1879 in Steuben County, IN., married Solomon H. Ackerman, born in 1848. In the 1880 U. S. Census, they lived in Kendallville, Noble County, IN. Effie, a dressmaker, was still single and lived in their home. Another sister was Julia A. (Fisher) Deubener, 14 Jan 1855 - 19 Dec 1922, married Justus Deubener, 30 Nov 1840 - 21 Sep 1897. Julia and Justus are buried at O-HUD Cemetery, Steuben County, IN. ALLEN A. BRUGH CAME FROM A LARGE FAMILY. Some of his siblings listed in the Cemetery books are: BRO: Leander Brugh, 16 May 1839 - 28 Jan 1887, on 30 Apr 1862, he married Susan (Smith) Brugh, 15 Nov 1842 - 30 Nov 1923. They are buried at O-HUD Cemetery. BRO: William Brugh, born 1848. SIS: Mary Brugh, born 1849. ` SIS: Caroline A. (Brugh) Bish, born about 1852 - died 25 Jun 1887, on 09 Apr 1874 in DeKalb County, IN, married Joseph Bish. Caroline was listed as a widow living wit0h her mother, Cathern Brugh, in Hudson, Steuben County, IN in the 1880 U. S. Census. Caroline's daughter, Arc B. Bish and Cathern's son Allen also lived there. Caroline and Cathern are both listed as widows so Caroline's husband died within a few years of their marriage. Caroline also died at a relatively young age. SIS: Almira E. Brugh, 05 May 1853 - 14 Sep 1856, died at the age of 3 years, 4 months and 9 days and is buried at Trinity Cemetery. BRO: Alfred Brugh, born about 1857. SIS: Anna M. Brugh, born about 1869. It was stated in Leander Brugh's obituary, Steuben Republican, 02 Feb 1887, p.5, c.4, that he was the oldest of twelve children.
