FONTANA (CLARK) BURNHAM, Jan 1830 - 14 Sep 1894

   One more of the early settlers of Orland has gone to her 
long home.  Fontana Clark was born in Wardsborough, Windham 
county, Vermont, in January, 1830.  She was united in 
marriage to Morris Burnham in August, 1847, and they started 
immediately for Orland, arriving here Sept. 1st.  To them 
were born four children---Orrin lives in California, Mrs. 
Grace Luce, in Lansing, Michigan, and Frank and Addie are in 
the old home.  They opened the Burnham hotel in 1868.  Mr. 
Burnham died ten years ago, and Mrs. Burnham and the children 
kept the hotel till 1893 when she went to Lansing.  She had 
been in poor health since last May, and was anxious to return 
to her old home, arriving here about two weeks ago, seemingly 
quite happy to meet her old friends, but she was not 
permitted to be with them long for death claimed her 
September 14, 1894.  She was 64 years and 8 months old.  
Funeral services were held at her late home on Sunday, 
conducted by Rev. Bonney, who preached an appropriate sermon 
founded on the following words:  "Her children arise up and 
call her blessed."  She was laid beside her husband in the 
Orland cemetery.  Exquisite floral offerings were sent by 
friends in Lansing, for which the children sincerely thank 
the donors, and also the Orland people for their kindness and 
sympathy.

   Fontana (Clark) Burnham, Jan 1830 - 14 Sep 1894, married 
James Morris Burnham, 02 Jul 1823 - 16 Mar 1884.  They are 
buried at Memorial Grove Cemetery, Steuben County, Inediana.
   
CHILDREN:

   Frank F. Burnham, 1855 - 1915, married Cynthia (Barber) 
Burnham, 1861 - 1945, daughter of William Barber, 1837 - 10 
Jun 1915, and Cidney (Slaybaugh) Barber, 06 Jun 1834 - 16 Apr 
1904.  They are all buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, 
Steuben County, Indiana.
   Adda A. Burnham, born about 1849.
   Gracie E. Burnham, born about 1866.
