STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1901, pg 1, col 5 HARRIET M. (FULLER) BUTLER, 30 Apr 1843 - 02 Jan 1901 Harriet M. (Fuller) Butler was born in Gilead, Branch county, Mich., April 30, 1843, and died at her home in Salem Center, Ind., January 2, 1901, after a brief illness from lung fever, aged 57 years, 9 months and 2 days. Deceased leaves an aged father, and four sisters in the west, and a husband and son to mourn their loss. She was united in marriage with M. B. Butler, then a resident of Angola, Ind., March 27, 1864. Three children, all boys, were born to them. The eldest died in infancy. The youngest, Harry M. died two years ago in Clay Center, Neb., aged 22 years, and the other, Benjamin M., with the husband and father, survive. In 1865, Mrs. Butler united with the Presbyterian church, and later, when the Congregational church was organized in Angola, she and her husband were among the charter members, holding their relation to the church until 1878, when they removed to Salem. In her life she was energetic in good works, patient, cheerful and submissive through great suffering, as a friend to the poor, the homeless, and friendless. Her ruling motive in life was the very climax of love. "As ye did unto the least of these ye did unto me." As a wife and mother, no eulogy from surviving husband and son can portray a life like hers. She is now with her Lord whom she loved, at home and at rest. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Salem Center, Jan. 4, Rev. Noil, of Angola, officiating. M.B.B.
