STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JULY 9, 1924, page 1, column 7 JOSEPH BUTLER, 234 Jul 1846 - 02 Jul 1924 JOSEPH BUTLER DEAD Joseph Butler, a prominent citizen of Lake Gage vicinity, died Thursday morning of last week at the age of 79 years, after a long illness. The funeral services were held at the Lake Gage church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Humfreys. Mr. Butler was well known in this section of the country. He held the office of county clerk from 1871 to 1879, and during the populist movement of the early `90's was elected prosecuting attorney for this district. He married Miss Salena Weicht, who died several years ago, and two children survive, William, on the home farm, and Mrs. Nola Green, of Auburn. They are buried at Lake Gage Cemetery. Salena was the daughter of Dr. William C., Weicht, 15 Apr 1822 - 04 Nov 1889, and Elizabeth (Neubauer) Weicht, 22 Sep 1822 - 04 Nov 1894. They are buried at Old Angola Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILDREN: Bessie Nola (Butler) Green, 28 Mar 1882 - 1933, on 29 Dec 1903, married Professor Clarence Green, 1874 - 1955. They are buried at Lake Gage Cemetery. Joseph William Justus Butler, (William Joseph in familysearch), 13 Aug 1885 - 29 Mar 1961, on 28 Aug 1913, married 1st, Margaret (White) Butler, 29 May 1892 - 15 Feb 1920. On 21 Apr 1924, he married 2nd, Myrtle (Ranney) Butler, 19 Oct 1886 - 25 Feb 1974. They are buried at Lake Gage Cemetery. Joseph is also known as "Billie".
