ANGOLA HERALD, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 1910, p.1, c.4 SALENA MARY (WEICHT) BUTLER, 19 Oct 1850 - 01 Sep 1910 Salena Mary Weicht Butler, daughter of Wm. C. and Elizabeth Weicht was born in Angola, Oct. 19, 1850. Her parents were natives of Germany. Her father, Dr. Weicht, was born in Baden, Germany and her mother a native of Bavaria. She was married to Joseph Butler, March 31, 1881. To this union was born two children, Bessie Nola, born March 28, 1882 and married to Prof. Clarence Green, now living in Tacoma, Washington, and Joseph William Justus, born August 13, 1885, now living at Lake Gage. Mrs. Butler passed away Thursday afternoon greatly mourned by a host of friends. In her personal life Mrs. Butler was everybody's friend, the enemy of none; this is not just a formal statement, but expresses modestly the friendly, courteous relations which she maintained with all her friends and acquaintances. In her church relations she was a Congregationalist, remaining loyal to her faith unto the end. In social circles she found a prominent place before the days of her illness. She was of a literary mind, loving books and study. She was a member of the Sorosis and Athena literary circles, and the Alpha literary society. She also had the opportunity of rendering some public service, being a member of the Eastern Star and the King's Daughters. She was deputy postmistress at Angola, and served for a number of years in the Lake Gage post-office. It is with sincere regret that we do her memory these honors today. In pain, patient and thankful for what was done, in passing away hopeful through her faith, and having gone she still speaketh. She leaves to mourn her husband, daughter, son, one sister, Miss May Weicht and Miss Alice Curtis for many years a member of the family, and a large circle of friends who will remember her with fond feelings and affectionate hearts. Mrs. Butler was laid to rest in the Lake Gage cemetery with a profusion of beautiful flowers. The sermon by Rev. John Humfreys and the Eastern Star ceremony were very inspiring and impressive.
