STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, 06 DEC 1911 ROBERT CARLIN CAMERON, 27 MAR 1848 - 01 DEC 1911 ROBERT CARLIN CAMERON Was born near Metz, Steuben county,Indiana, March 27, 1848, and died at his home in Fremont, Indiana, Dec. 1, 1911, aged 63 years, 8 months and 3 days. His boyhood was spent on his father's farm in Richland township, where he applied himself to the various duties of farm life and attended the district school. At an early age he began teaching, which work he alternated with senior literary study. After leaving the district school, he continued his education in the Angola high school and in Hillsdale college. His qualities as an instructor, and his excellent discipline, soon placed him in the foremost rank and marked him as a teacher of unusual ability. In this capacity his services were much in demand and he was called upon to fill many difficult places. Later he was successfully engaged in the mercantile business at Columbia, Ohio, and for the last twenty-five years he had been a druggist in Fremont. December 25, 1870, he was united in marriage with Miss Josetta Barnard. On April 5, 1881, he was married to Mrs. Sarah Hanna, who with the brothers and sisters deeply feel the loss of a devoted husband and kind brother. He was one of a family of nine children, five sons and four daughters. The daughters are: Mrs. Chas. Quance, Mrs. Mary Greek, Mrs. Samuel Anspaugh, and Mrs. Uriah Egbert, all of Steuben county. The two sons are Dr. J. F. Cameron, of Hamilton, and Dr. W. C. Cameron, of White Pigeon, Mich. The father and mother and two brothers preceded him to the life beyond. He leaves no children, but nieces and nephews will long remember the kindly greetings and the warm hospitality they enjoyed in the visits to "Uncle Rob." Funeral services were held at the home of Samuel Anspaugh, near Metz, conducted by Rev. John Humfreys, of Angola. Interment in Mount Pleasant at Metz. On 05 Apr 1881, he married his 2nd wife, Mrs. Sarah Hanna Cameron, 1851 - 1924. They are buried at Mt.Pleasant Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Robert Carlin Cameron was the son of John E. Cameron, born 21 Dec 1814 in Scotland, died 01 Apr 1878; on 25 Feb 1841, in Napoleon, Ohio, he married Mary Emily (Carlin) Cameron, born 05 Feb 1823 in Ohio, died 15 Nov 1895. They were buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. She was the daughter of Robert E. Carlin, born in 1799 in Penn. or Columbiana County,Ohio; died in 1870, probably in Richland Township, Steuben County, Indiana; and Sarah Perkey, born in 1804 in Penn. Or Columbiana County,Ohio; died in 1865, probably in Richland Township, Steuben County, Indiana. They were married in Columbiana, Wayne County, Ohio. They were buried at Columbia Cemetery, Northwest Township, Williams County, Ohio. SIBLINGS OF ROBERT CARLIN CAMERON: Louisa (Cameron) Matthews Quance, 25 Apr 1846 - 18 Apr 1921 was the 2nd wife of Charles E. Quance, 28 Nov 1842 - 11 May 1925. Louise's 1st husband was Orris A. Matthews, 1852 - 1888. Charles E. Quance's 1st wife was Eliza (Bowman) Quance, 15 Sep 1851 - 03 Mar 1894. Louisa is buried with her 1st husband, Orris A. Matthews at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Charles Quance is buried with his 1st wife, Eliza at South Scott Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Mary A. (Cameron) Greek, 1850 - 1929. She is buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Margaret (Cameron) Anspaugh, 15 Dec 1852 - Oct 1938, on 01 Jan 1876 in Steuben County, Indiana, married Samuel A. Anspaugh, 16 Jul 1852 - 1934, son of John Anspaugh, 18 Jun 1820 - 05 Jun 1904, and Sarah Ann (Cain) Anspaugh, 11 Oct 1830 - 24 Jun 1932. (NOTE: Sarah Ann was over 100 years old.) They are all buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Mrs. Uriah Egbert - no other information. Dr. John Franklin Cameron, 08 May 1855 - 1944, on 12 Dec 1880, he married his 1st wife, Elnora (Powers) Cameron, 07 Mar 1854 - 30 Jul 1886. Elnora was the daughter of Clark Powers, 12 Dec 1803 - 25 May 1859, and Hannah (Ketchum) Powers, 19 Aug 1813 - 09 Mar 1885. They are buried at Powers Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Clark and Hannah Powers were pioneer settlers of York Township. On 06 Nov 1887, Dr. Cameron married Mary Jan (Haughey) Cameron, 1858 - 12 Nov 1946, who is buried at Hamilton Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. NOTE: Page 268 of "Cemeteries of Steuben County, Ind., 1990" by Audree Seibel Lewis, has this note: "John Clark Cameron, 16 Jul 1886 - 21 Aug 1886, age 1 month and 6 days, is the son of John Franklin Cameron, M.D. and his 1st wife, Elnora (Powers) Cameron, who died following the birth of her only child."
