KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY, ANGOLA, STEUBEN COUNTY, INDIANA SETH CARROLL, 17 AUG 1837 - 26 NOV 1917 Seth Carroll was born in Boston, Mass., Aug. 17, 1837. His parents lived there but a short time after his birth, moving to Cheshire Co., New Hampshire, where his boyhood days were spent. When about two years of age he passed through a serious illness, which seemed to affect his mental development. He remained very much like a child all through life, lacking in reason and judgment. He learned to do a great many things and seemed to enjoy working. His friendliness to children was admirable. He was kind, but wilful, and often when he would to things which could not be allowed, he would inflict punishment upon himself, but never raised his hand to strike another. He came with his father and mother to Steuben county, Indiana, settling on a farm near Jamestown when he was about 15 years old. While there, he lost his dearest friend---his mother. His greatest wish was that she might live to care for him all his days. After the mother's death, Seth and his father lived together until death claimed the father. He then went to live with his sister, Mrs. Lucy Collins, on the farm where she graciously mothered and cared for him. For thirty years he lived there, happy and contented. He gradually grew more feeble as age came on until he quietly went to sleep after an illness of two weeks, on November 26, 1917, being 80 years, 3 months and 9 days old. He leaves to mourn their loss, one brother, Charles Carroll, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and many nieces and nephews.
