LIFE OF JOHN CASTELL

Was a Long-Time Resident of Steuben County

     Son of John and Hannah Stanley Castell, was born in Middleton Cheeney, Oxforshire, England, Juuly 25, 1837.  He was the oldest of a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded him in death with the exception of his sister, Ann Elizabeth Castell, who by reason of ill health is today confined to her home just west of Angola.  Mr. Castell was united in marriage to Adelaide Johnson, Feb. 20, 1867.  Mrs. Castell passed away Dec. 27, 1912.  Mr. Castell had resided on the home farm near Silver Lake for more than half a century.  His death occurred May 28, 1915, after two or three years of increasing weakness.  His age was 77 years, 9 months and 29 days.  Mr. Castell was a landmark in this vicinity.  He was well known as a stock dealer and farmer, ever ready to do a kind deed and never turned a needy man from his poor.  It may truly be said of him “Blessed is the man who considereth the poor.”  Many neighbors and friends mourn his going besides his nephews at……
