STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1899, page 1, column 6 ANDREW DARWIN CASWELL, 21 Jul 1836 - 06 Dec 1899 Andrew Darwin Caswell was born in Lake county, Ohio, Jul 21, 1836, and died at Fremont, Indiana, Dec. 6, 1899. The immediate cause of his death was acute congestion of the right lung, complicated with disease of the left lung, which was contracted during his service in the army. He came to Steuben county in 1840. At the breaking out of the war of the rebellion, he quit school and enlisted in Co. B, 4th Mich. Inf., serving in that and other commands until the close of the war. Dec. 25, 1863, he was married to Sarah Jane Hall. To them were born eleven children, eight of whom, with his widow, survive him. As a citizen, Andrew D. Caswell embodied fully those qualities which go to make up an exemplary life. In his family he was a kind and affectionate husband and father. In his business relations he was honest and upright. In his associations with the people where he lived, he was careful not to say or do aught that would reflect upon the reputation of any one. It can truly be said of him that he lived an honest and manly life and though not reaching the "three score years and ten," he had by his well spent life fully rounded out his work on earth. He has gone to join the unnumbered host on high. Few men have been better prepared for this invitation, "Come up higher." Peace be with him.
