STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, 1902, page 1, column 6 CHARLES DENISON CHADWICK, 17 Nov 1831 - 30 Apr 1902 Charles Denison Chadwick was born in Granville, Licking county, Ohio, Nov. 17, 1831, and died at Fremont, Indiana, where he had gone on business, from his home in Angola, April 30, 1902, aged 70 years, 5 months and 13 days. Deceased came to Steuben county in 1850, and settled on a farm in Jamestown township. October 20, 1859, he was married to Harriet A. Burdick, of Jamestown township, Steuben Co., and to this union were born two sons, William C., now of Hillsdale, Michigan, and Charles A., of Angola, who with the wife survive him. In 1870 he was elected treasurer of Steuben county and held the office for two terms. He continued his residence in Angola until 1884, when he removed to Fremont and engaged in the mercantile business, and was in this work until about eight years ago, when he retired from active business, although he continued to buy wool each year, and was so engaged when taken sick a few days ago. Last September he and his wife again made Angola their home. Mr. Chadwick has been an ardent Republican since the birth of the party and ably championed its principles, and as a friend, he was always true and reliable. In addition to his family, he leaves an adopted son, Frank Johnson, a railway engineer, of Elkhart, Indiana, who was present at the funeral, two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Haines, of Topeka, Kansas, who was also at the funeral. Deceased became a member of the I. O. O. F. in 1865, and funeral services were held under the auspices of this order at his late home in Angola, Friday, at two o'clock. Charles and Vada are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Other sons are not buried in Steuben County.
