STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 27, 1903, page 3, column 6 MARGARET (HAGERMAN) CHILSON, 02 Oct 1830 - 24 May 1903 Margaret Hagerman was born in Hancock county, Ohio, Oct. 2, 1830, and died at her home 2« miles northwest of Helmer, May 24, 1903, aged 72 years, 7 months and 22 days. April 4, 1850, she was united in marriage with Benjamin Chilson and two years later came with him to Steuben county, where she had since made her home. To this union were born ten children, Thomas, Harvey, David, Mary, Addie, Frank, Lillie, Charles, William and Jesse. The children are all living except Charlie and Frank. The former died in infancy, the latter in 1895. Her children were all with her except Harvey, who lives in North Dakota and was unable to come. At the age of 19 she gave her heart to God and lived a consistent christian. During the last weeks of her life she constantly expressed the wish to go home saying she was ready and would be so happy to go. She leaves a husband, 8 children, 18 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a host of friends to mourn their loss. She took great comfort from the visits of her friends especially the children who came daily and brought flowers and other childish offerings of love for "grandma." Although she was a great sufferer she bore her affliction patiently. The funeral services were conducted at the Hudson M. E. church, Rev. Luce officiating, May 25, 1903.
