CLARK, Arby ARBY CLARK was born in Jamestown, New York, October 29th, 1843 and died in Fremont, Indiana, December 12th, 1915, aged 72 years, 1 month and 13 days. His boyhood was spent in his native state, where in answer to his country's first call for volunteers he enlisted in Company A, 49th N.Y. He remained in active service until the close of the war, except for the short time that he was a prisoner of the southern forces. At the close of the war he went to the then vast forests of Michigan to work at his trade as a lumberman, which was also his father's and brother's trade. Of this family of four brothers and two sisters, his taking away leaves but one younger brother, who lives in Tacoma, Washington. He was married December 30, 1871, to Louisa J. Dygert, who died June 30, 1915. To this union were born one son and five daughters. One daughter, Nina, preceded them to the great beyond. Those remaining are Clara Shepherd of Willow Springs, Missouri, Ray Clark and May Phenicie of near Fremont, Indiana, Leah Parkhurst of Greenville, Michigan, and Arla Clark of Indianapolis, Indiana, also five grandchildren, who were the joy of his declining years. "Soldier, rest! thy warfare o'er. Dream of fighting fields no more; Sleep the sleep that knows no breaking, Morn of toil, nor night of waking" Note: buried at Dygert Cemetery, Steuben County, IN Submitted by: Gerry and Paula Christiansen gerryc@iserv.net
