STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 1883, p.8, c.2 FRANCES C. (GOLDSMITH) CLARK, 20 Dec 1833 - 22 Dec 1883 Mrs. Omar I. Clark died at her residence near this place, aged 50 years and 2 days. She was born in Port Gibson, Ontario county, New York, her maiden name being Frances E. Goldsmith. She came to Indiana with her parents in 1848 and settled in Steuben county. On May 4, 1853 she was married to Mr. Clark. Two children survive her, a son, Oscar, and a daughter, Mrs. Shackford, of Auburn. She was a sister of Mrs. J. G. Brown and Mrs. A. A. Lovejoy, of Angola. Mrs. Clark had been in poor heath for a year or more, but was confined to her bed only about two weeks. The funeral occurred Monday at 10 o'clock from the residence and was largely attendsd, Rev. J. A. Dobson of Angola, officiating. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Frances C. (Goldsmith) Clark, 20 Dec 1833 - 22 Dec 1883, was the 1st wife of Omar I. Clark, 25 Jul 1832 - 11 Sep 1895. They are buried at Clark Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Omar's 2nd wife was Josephine (Goldsmith) Brown Clark, 1843 - 24 Dec 1908, sister of his 1st wife, Frances. Josephine's 1st husband was German Brown, 10 Dec 1830 - 05 Aug 1878. Josephine and German are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. The obituary lists Frances' middle initial as "E" while the cemetery book and 1880 United States census lists "C". Frances and Josephine were daughters of Harvey H. Goldsmith, 25 Jan 1809 - 15 Oct 1869, and Phebe Ann (Sears) Goldsmith, 08 May 1806 - 14 Apr 1881. The cemetery book lists them as being buried at both Circle Hill Cemetery and Old Angola Cemetery. Omar was the son of Dr. Alonzo P. Clark, 23 Dec 1807 - 03 Feb 1867, and Betsey (Bump) Clark, 14 Jan 1808 - 26 Mar 1878. They are buried at Clark Cemetery. CHILDREN: Oscar G. Clark, 10 Apr 1855 - 03 Oct 1888, married Almina (Fee) Clark, 22 Jul 1857 - 15 Feb 1935. They are buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Ada J. (Clark) Shackford, age 21, and Charles A. Shackford, age 31, and their child, Edna G. Shackford, age 11 months, are listed as living in her parents home in the 1880 United States Census, Steuben Township, Steuben County, Indiana, Family History Library Film #1254312, NA Film Number T9-0312, page #304B.
