John Cleckner, the son of John and Caroline Cleckner, was born in Seneca county, Ohio, December 23, 1858, and died at his home in Scott township, January 9, 1933, age 74 years, 17 days. When at the age of five years his father passed away in the Civil war, he came with his mother and brother to Indiana and made their home in Otsego township, where he grew to manhood. On April 10, 1881, he was united in marriage to Hattie A. Clark, of Scott township. To this union were born two boys, Shirley of Angola and Ford of North Scott. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, two sons, seven grandchildren, one brother Daniel of Pleasant Lake, a half-sister Mrs. Ada Gilbert, and a half-brother William Healey, both of Metz and a host of relatives and friends. When life has passed and we are gone, Others are left to carry on, Weep not nor mourn to see us go, God the Father would have it so. Pray only may our lives be true, A living example from him to you. God cares not for the length of life, But how we battle in the strife. Funeral services were held at the South Scott church at 2:00 o’clock on Wednesday, January 11, 1933, conducted by Elder J.O. Rose, assisted by Rev. M. O. Johnston. Burial in the South Scott cemetery. Card of Thanks We wish to express our appreciation to the many kindnesses shown us during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father. Mrs. John Cleckner and Family
