KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIER PUBLIC LIBRARY, ANGOLA, STEUBEN COUNTY, INDIANA SETH CLEVERLY, 14 JAN 1834 - 14 JUN 1914 SETH CLEVERLY Son of John and Minerva Cleverly, was born in Portage county, Ohio, Jan. 14, 1834, and died at his home in Scott township, June 14, 1914, aged 80 years and 5 months. He was united in marriage to Ellen Craig, who died in 1892. He enlisted in Co. G, 23rd Regiment of Ohio Veteran Infantry, at the beginning of the Civil War, and served under Captain William McKinley. He was honorably discharged July 26, 1865. He leaves an adopted son, Wm. Cleverly, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Grem, of Ohio. In August, 1865, he moved to Steuben county, Indiana, in which place he has since resided. Funeral services were conducted at the late home on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 by Elder John R. Golden of the Christen church in Angola. A tribute was given to his long life, splendid character and untarnished war record. Miss Mildred Bailey sang three selections. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Seth Cleverly was born in Portage County, OH, on 14 Jan 1834 and died at his home in Scott Township, 14 Jun 1914 (Cemetery book says 1913). He married Ellen (Craig) Cleverly who died in 1892. They were buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, IN. Seth and Ellen had an adopted son, William A. Cleverly, 1861 - 1932, who married Clamenza J. (Bryan) Cleverly, 1864 - 1912. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery.
