BERTHA THORTON (WEEKS) CLOSSON, 14 Mar 1819 - 31 May 1890 Bertha Thornton Weeks was born March 14, 1819, and died at her home near Pleasant Lake, May 31, 1890, aged 71 years, 2 months and 17 days. On the 15th of February, 1838, she was united in marriage to G. W. Closson, of Delaware county, Ohio, living there some fourteen years, when they moved to Steuben county where they have since resided, he preceding her only a few years to the better land. To them were born six children, four of whom survive her- two daughters, Mrs. Mary A. Dudley, of Orland, Mrs. Bertha M. Knott, who resided with her, and two sons, Edgar W., of Michigan, and Carmon J., of Pleasant Lake. One infant son was born and died in Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. Addie Forward, died in Missouri, leaving two little children, aged 5 and 2 years, to her mother's care, which trust she faithfully fulfilled, living to see them man and woman grown. While living in Ohio she united with the M. E. Church, but joined the Universalist church soon after moving to Indiana, to which faith she faithfully adhered, being a consistent member of the church until her death. Her work is done, and well done so we lay her to sleep among the flowers she loved so well, "We only knew when we heard no more, As we watched for the parting breath, As an angel was tenderly lifting her down The banks of the river of death- Only knew that their footsteps were pressing the sands, That are washed by the hurrying waves, And that over the billows outstretched were their hands, To the shore their brightness laves."
