KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA. MARGARET (ARNOLD) BROWN COBERT, 08 Sep 1836 - 05 Apr 1913 MRS. JAMES COBERT Margaret Arnold was born in Germany in the province of Rarmstadt, Sept. 8, 1836, and departed this life April 5, 1913, at her home in Flint, Indiana, aged 76 years, 6 months and 27 days. At the age of two years she came to America with her parents, who settled in Wyoming county, New York, and in 1855 moved to Steuben county, Indiana, where with the exception of a few years spent in Branch county, Michigan, she has since lived, making her home in Jackson township. March 20, 1861, she was united in marriage to Jeremiah Brown, who passed away Sept. 11, 1872. To this union were born six children, George H., Emily J., Hoyt S., Ellie May, Edna and Morris M. In 1876 she was united in marriage to James Cobert, who passed away in 1900. For years she has been an active and devoted member of the Methodist church. Her life was consecrated to service; she never failed to respond to the call for help where she could assist in the time of need; honest, kind and generous in all her acts; a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend. Besides caring for her own children, three of whom, George H., Mrs. Emily Benninghoof and Mrs. Ellie May Pendell, preceded her to the home beyond, she has assisted other mothers in caring for those who today live to express their gratitude when they speak of "Auntie Cobert," as she was so kindly known. She had enjoyed life and health, and during her late illness of eight weeks, she suffered with patience, feeling her life here was nearing its close, for which she was prepared to go and to receive the reward awaiting her. Two sisters preceded her. One brother, Nicholas Arnold, and five sisters, Mrs. Mary Mundy, Mrs. Kate West, Mrs. Louisa McNett, children, Hoyt, Mrs. Edna Parsons, and Morris, twenty grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends, remain to mourn her departure. Funeral services wee held at the Flint M. E. church, Tuesday, April (date illegible), Elder C. W. McCord, of Angola Christian church, officiating.
