FROM THE KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA. PUBLISHED IN THE STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11, 1890, page 1. LEMUEL COLTON SR., 30 Apr 1800 - 03 Jun 1890 Died on June 3d, 1890, of old age at his home near Pleasant Lake, Steuben County, Indiana, Deacon Lemuel Colton, aged 90 years, 1 month and 3 days. The subject of this notice was born in New Hampshire, April 30, 1800. In 1815 he moved to Vermont where he resided 15 years; he then removed to Ohio where he remained 7 years. He came to Indiana in 1844, locating in Otsego township, where he was united in marriage to Mrs. Matilda Woodworth. Four years later he sought a home in Steuben township where he remained until death. He survived his partner in life seven years and leaves three sons. At the age of 19 he was convinced by the Holy Spirit that he was a lost sinner; was led to see Christ as the sinner's Savior, and by faith took him as his sin-bearer and became a free man. A few years after his conversion he was baptized by Elder Chaffee and joined a Baptist church in Ohio. Coming to this state he joined the Baptist church in Otsego. During the year 1850, he became one of the constituent members of the Pleasant Lake church, and at that time was made deacon of the church, which office he maintained until death. Our late brother had a clear head and a warm heart, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom. He was ever faithful to all the appointments of the church as far as health would permit. He was dearly loved by the church and held in high esteem by all the people of the community, hence his loss was deeply felt when the Head of the church took him to Himself. Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Lake Baptist church, June 5, his pastor officiating, assisted by Rev. Ward, of Auburn, his former pastor. H. A. McCONNELL.
