KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA. ELIZABETH (VAUGHN) SHARP CONLEY, 15 Aug 1832 - 09 Feb 1912 Elizabeth Vaughn was born in Batavia, New York, Aug. 15, 1832. In early childhood she with her parents migrated by wagon towards the wild, unbroken west, locating in Steuben county, Indiana, where she grew to womanhood. Dec. 28, 1854, she was joined in wedlock with Samuel Sharp. To this union were born six children, Martha, Orcelia, Charles, Ada, Isabell and Morton, all of whom survive her and were present to pay the last tribute to a fond and loving mother. Her husband gave up his life in the conflict for freedom, leaving her and their six children to provide for in a new and undeveloped country. In 1875 she was married to John D. Conley, at Hamilton, Ind., where they resided until the fall of 1887, when the moved to Pleasant Lake, which has been her home until Feb. 9, 1912, when at the mature age of four score years she journeyed to that home in heaven from whose bourne no traveler returns. She was loved by all who knew her. Her children have lost the most sacred possession on earth, mother. She also leaves to mourn four brothers and one sister, John, Tracy, Amos and Elmer Vaughn, and Mrs. Vina Worden. They do not mourn because of her spiritual welfare; they mourn because they are lonely without her.
