STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, 07 JUN 1882, p.8, c.4 CARRIE E. (GIBSON) CRAIN, 01 Apr 1854 - 04 Jun 1882 Crain---In Angola, Sunday evening, June 4, 1882, Carrie E., wife of Dr. M. F. Crain, aged 28 years, 2 months and 4 days. Carrie E., daughter of Dr. B. R. and Susan S. Gibson, was born in Pomfret, Vt., April 1, 1854, and came to Steuben county in 1866. From 1875 to 1880 she was employed in the auditor's and recorder's offices. June 1, 1880, she was married to Dr. M. F. Crain. In the following November her health began to fail and in July, 1881, she went to Nora Springs, Iowa, hoping that a change would be beneficial. In September she returned no better and her health gradually continued to fail until Friday evening last week, when she became much worse and declined very rapidly. Notwithstanding her long illness she was at no time confined to her bed, but on Sunday, only a few hours before her death, was sitting up a portion of the time in an easy chair. The funeral occurred yesterday from the residence, on Martha Street, Rev. J. J. Hickmott, pastor of the Congregational church officiating. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION; Carrie E. Per the marriage license issued 02 Jun 1880 in Steuben County, IN., Carrie married Dr. Marcus Fulton Crain, 06 Nov 1848 - 16 May 1886. Marcus Crain's 2nd wife, Addie B. (Gibson) Crain, 21 Mar 1857 - 11 Feb 1893, was a sister of his 1st wife. Their parents were Dr. Bush Gibson who died in 1869 in Vermont, and Susan (Sweatt) Gibson, 28 Jan 1825 - 18 May 1898. In the 1880 United States Census, Carrie and Marcus were living in her mother's home in Angola. Parents of Dr. Marcus Crain were Abram D. Crain, born 04 Jun 1825 in Upper Canada, who, on 21 Jan 1848, married Harriet C. (Perry) Crain, 19 Nov 1825 - 30 May 1897.
