Herbert was baptized in December, 1867, and was one of the committee which relocated the church at the village of Pleasant Lake and built the main part of the present house of worship. Mr. Crampton showed many of the sterling qualities of his English ancestry. Quiet and unassuming, a good counselor, industrious, persevering, kind hearted and trustworthy. He was a great lover of home, seldom going away and never for any great length of time, and was a tender and loving husband and father.
