STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1901, page 5, column 4 LAURA L. (WICKWIRE) MERRIMAN CRAMPTON, 30 Jul 1842 - 04 Oct 1901 Laura L. Wickwire, daughter of Geo. W. and Loretta Wickwire, was born in Sandusky county, Ohio, July 30, 1842, and on Jan. 2, 1860, was married to Jerome Merriman, who died Feb. 22, 1863. To this union was born Oct. 8, 1860, one son, Frank, who resides just north of Angola. February 14, 1869, she was joined in marriage with Henry Crampton, who survives her. March 12, 1871, she united with the Baptist church at Pleasant Lake, and lived a consistent Christian life. Mrs. Crampton was a woman of great energy and was possessed of a high degree of intelligence, and all join in saying "she was a good woman." She departed this life Oct. 4, 1901, aged 59 years, 2 months and 4 days. She had gone to Buffalo with her husband and a few other friends to visit the Pan-American Exposition and Niagara Falls. She became ill at the falls and died in a short time after reaching their boarding house in Buffalo. She leaves her husband, son, four brothers and four sisters with other relatives and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1901, page 8, column 1 Mrs. Henry Crampton died suddenly at Buffalo, N. Y., Friday, Oct. 4, after being sick less than two hours. She with her husband and a few friends had gone to visit the Buffalo exposition and Niagara Falls. They arrived home with the remains Sunday morning. The funeral occurred at the Baptist church Monday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. M. Kendall and was attended by a large concourse of people. Laura is buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana, and Jerome is buried at Old Angola Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Their son, Franklin Jerome Merriman, 08 Oct 1859 - 19 Mar 1928, on 13 Jul 1895, married Mary Ellen (Rowley) Merriman, 1866 - 1956. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Laura married 2nd, Henry Crampton, 1840 - 045 Sep 1905. He is buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery. (Marriage license records show his last name as Carpenter) Laura was the daughter of George W. Wickwire, 20 Sep 1816 - 06 Oct 1883 and his 1st wife, Loretta P. (Lemmon) Wickwire, 12 Oct 1823 - 15 May 1951. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. George married 2nd, Rebecca H. (Hanna) Wickwire, 09 Mar 1830 -16 Dec 1875, buried at Circle Hill Cemetery.
