STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1900, pg. 1, col.7 HIRAM CROXTON, 22 Aug 1824 - 15 Feb 1900 DIED at his home in Hillsdale, Michigan, Feb. 15, 1900, Hiram Croxton, aged 75 years, 5 months and 24 days. Deceased was born in Carrollton, Carroll county, Ohio, Aug. 22, 1824. In the year 1847 he married Martha Thompson, who survives him. Mr. Croxton's early business life was spent in Monroeville and Salineville, Ohio, where he was engaged in the furniture business. In 1863 he moved to Pleasant Lake, Ind., to engage in farming. When the Fort Wayne, Jackson & Saginaw R. R. was built through the county he built the freight house and grain elevator at Pleasant Lake, representing that company as its agent for eight years. In 1888 he moved to Angola where he resided for three years and then moved to Hillsdale. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity for over forty years, andmany members of the order at Angola, Hillsdale and other places were present at the funeral to express sincere fraternal sympathy with the bereaved. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Croxton, of whom three have died, and four remain to be the comfort of the mother in her declining years. The surviving children are John G. Croxton, of Reading, Michigan; Worthington A. Croxton, of Fort Wayne; Emmet S. Croxton, of Angola; and Mrs. Arthur Robertson, of Hillsdale. Funeral services were held at the home in Hillsdale conducted by Elder Charles S. Medbury, pastor of the First Christian church in Angola. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Son: Emmet S. Croxton, 31 Dec 1862 - 10 Apr 1938, married 1st: Eula (Vandercook) Croxton, 19 Oct 1862 - 20 Aug 1919, daughter of Frederick and Emeline (McPherson) Vandercook. He married 2nd, Ruth E. (Kimsey) Croxton, 09 Oct 1881 - 05 Jul 1960. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.
