STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1901, pg. 1, col. 6 ISABELLE (RUSSELL) CROXTON, 09 Sep 1806 - 14 Jan 1900 Isabelle Russell Croxton was born in Westmoreland county, Penn., Sep. 9, 1806, and died at her home in Angola, Ind., Jan. 14, 1900, aged 94 years, 4 months and 5 days. Isaelle Russell was married to the Hon. Abram Croxton, of Columbiana county, Ohio, in 1830, and was the mother of nine children, of whom only four survive her, Mary J. Croxton, of New York City; W. G. Croxton, James L. Croxton and Mrs. Harriet I. Mattingly, of Angola, Ind. Three of those who are dead: Captain L. J. Croxton, Abram W. and Ellsworh W. Croxton, at the beginning of the Civil war, were quite well known in this county. Her son Calvin died in infancy, and her daughter, Martha, who was the wife of Rev. M. M. Travis, died in Chenoa, Ill. Mrs. Croxton's husband died in 1856, and is buried at Monroeville, Ohio, and soon after she went to Goshen and lived with her son, Captain Croxton, and after his death she moved to Angola, where she has since resided. She was in many respects a remarkable woman, and retained her mental faculties until a comparatively recent date, but having met with a serious accident, she in her last days, was very much afflicted, and not able to enjoy the society of her friends as she had previously. In early life she became a member of the Presbyterian church and lived a devoted member. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. P. E. Holp. Burial at Goshen, Indiana. Dgtr: Harriet Isabell (Croxton) Mattingly, 25 Mar 1845 - 23 Oct 1930, married Robert I. Mattingly, no date of birth or death. Harriet is buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. From the "History of Steuben County, IN -1885, page 480, "Early Lawyers", states, "In 1860 William G. Croxton (W. G. in the obituary) came here from Columbiana County, Ohio. Grandchild: A son of William Galen Croxton and Sarah Curtis Carter Croxton, John Abram Croxton, 11 Sep 1874 - 20 Aug 1941, married Jennie (Anderson) Croxton, 08 Nov 1877 - 07 Jan 1961.
