In 1886 he was elected to the legislature, and re-elected in 1888. While in that body, he was always at his post of duty, active and aggressive, ever on the alert for the interests of the constituency he represented. He was admitted to the bar Sept. 4, 1888, and afterwards admitted to practice in the supreme court of the state. In 1888-9 he formed a law partnership with R. Wes McBride. Later he was associated with Frank S. Roby. In 1889 he entered the pension agency at Indianapolis and remained there four years. March 1, 1894, he formed a partnership with Hon. Wm. M. Brown which continued until his death. He was elected Prosecutor of the 35th judicial district in 1894, and held this office two years. He was married Nov. 2, 1897, to Elizabeth Barr, of Chicago. He was taken sick February 11, and after a lingering sickness of eight weeks, died April 9, 1898. He was a member of the K. of P. Lodge and a member of the grand lodge and was an honored and respected member of that order. As a public officer he was honest and courageous, efficient and reliable. As an attorney he commanded the respect of the bar and court. As a citizen he was truthful in all things. The funeral took place from the M.E. church, Monday afternoon, under the direction of the K. of P. order, and was largely attended, Rev. F. M. Kemper officiating. Interment in Circle Hill cemetery. Davis, beg to submit the following: WHEREAS, Death has for the third time entered our Temple and this time to take from our midst, Brother Davis. Again our heavenly Father has deemed it wise in His infinite wisdom that we should pause and note the admonition that sooner or later must come to all, that in he midst of life we are in death, and, whereas, it is meant that we shall bow submissively to His supreme will in the removal forever from our midsts our dearly beloved Brother, let it be Resolved, that in A.
