Davis was born in Chenango county, New York, March 10, 1832. He came with his parents to Steuben County in 1836, where the parents settled on a farm southeast of Orland, and where he resided until the age of 19 years. The father died when Horace was only 13 years old, leaving the mother with ten children to care for. In 1855, he was married to Rebecca VanCleave, to which union were (born) three children, Eugene, Emma and Adah. Adah went to her home above when only three years of age, and the mother in 1863. In 1864, he was united in marriage to Jane Carroll, and to this union, one child was born, Nellie. Her mother passed to her reward in 1866. In April, 1868, he was united in marriage to Eliza Green, to which union were born five children, Dale, Artie, Lynn, Sarah and Florence. Their mother was called home in March, 1893. He was a man well known and respected. Living on a farm northeast of Flint, that he had cleared himself, over fifty years. He passed away, November 5, 1912, after having suffered patiently for many years. Buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Emma Adelpha (Davis) Shank, 1858 - 1906, 2nd wife of Norman C. Shank, 1846 - 1917, buried at Flint Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Ada H. Davis, died 07 Aug 186?, aged 3 years, 10 months and 7 days, buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Horace married 2nd: Jane (Carroll) Davis, 10 Jan 1839 - 16 Oct 1866, daughter of Edward and Jane (Bonney) Carroll. Child of this marriage: Nellie Helen (Davis) Stayner, 11 May 1866 - 15 Apr 1938, and James Oliver Stayner, 20 Oct 1862 - 09 Jan 1939, son of William Perry Stayner and Dolly Jane (Powers) Stayner. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Horace married 3rd: Eliza (Green) Davis, about 1844 - Mar 1893. Children of this marriage: John Dale/Dale John Davis, 07 Apr 1870 - 29 Aug 1899, on 12 May 1895, married Nettie P. (Kain) Davis, 1872 - _____. Nettie's 2nd husband was Z. E. Danner, 1866 - 1938. They are all buried on the same plot at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Sara E. (Davis) Call, 1887 - 25 Nov 1963, married Guy L. Call, 1885 - 31 Aug 1964, buried at Flint Cemetery. Florence Amber (Davis) VanWagner, 21 August 1889 - 27 Jan 1962, married Byron VanWagner, 13 Jan 1887 - 20 Jan 1980, buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Artie and Lynn are not listed in the cemetery book. Horace and his wives are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery.
