STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30, 1899, page 8, column 4 JOHN DALE DAVIS, 07 Apr 1870 - 29 Aug 1899 DIED in Angola, Indiana, August 29, 1899, John Dale Davis, aged 29 years, 4 months and 22 days. Deceased was born in Jackson township, Steuben county, Indiana, and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace E. Davis. March 12, 1895, he was joined in marriage with Miss Nettie C. Kain, of Angola, and to the union was born one son, who with his mother, survives him. Mr. Davis came to Angola soon after his marriage, and after clerking in a store for a few months, purchased, in company with Mr. Menges, the City Dray Line, and continued in the work until a few days ago, when he had a severe attack of typhoid fever that resulted in his death. He was a quiet, industrious, honest man and highly respected by all who knew him. He was a member of the Christian church and the I.O.O.F. Funeral services will be held at the Christian church today (Wednesday) at two o'clock, Elder C. S. Medbury, minister officiating. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: John Dale Davis, 07 Apr 1870 - 29 Aug 1899, was the son of Horace Ephriam Davis and his 3rd wife, Eliza Green Davis. He also went by the name of Dale John Davis. He married Nettie P. (Kain) Davis, 1872 - ? , daughter of Alex and Libbie (DeVaul) Kain. Her 2nd husband was Z. E. Danner, 1866 - 1938. John, Nettie and Z. E. are all buried in the same plot at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Indiana. Horace Ephriam Davis was the son of Steuben County pioneer settlers, Abner, born about 10 Dec 1796 - 20 Mar 1845, and Polly (Bardsley/Beardsley) Davis, born about 10 Oct 1799 - 27 Feb 1881.
