DIED

DAVIS - At the residence of her son, David Davis, Feb. 27, 1881, Polly Davis, 
relict of the late Abner Davis, in the 83rd year of her age.
        She was born near Hartford, Conn., September 1798, and moved with 
her parents to the state of New York. She was married to Abner Davis and 
moved to this state in June, 1836; and settled near Jackson Prairie on the 
farm known as the Davis farm. She was the mother of ten children, five of 
whom passed away before her. She suffered many privations as an early 
settler and being left a widow near thirty-six years ago had to suffer many 
hardships. She now, as a sheaf ready for the harvest, has gone to her 
reward.

  
ADDITIONAL NOTES: 

        Polly Bardsley Davis was born 10 Sep 1798 in Fairfield, Conn., and 
died 27 Feb 1881 in Steuben County, Indiana. Her husband, Abner Davis, was 
born 10 Dec 1795 in the state of New York, and died 20 Mar 1845 in Steuben 
County, Indiana.
        These children were named in Abner Davis' will dated 04 Mar 1845, 
proved 29 May 1845, Steuben County, Indiana, Circuit Court Will Records, 
1845 - 1924.

        Gideon W. Davis, born about Aug 1824, and died 08 Nov 1887. On 02 
Apr 1848, he married Eleanor VanCleve in Steuben County, Indiana.
        David G. Davis, 07 Jan 1830 - 21 Mar 1896, married Frances Morse on 
25 Dec 1866 in Steuben County, Indiana. 
        Horace Ephriam Davis, 10 Mar 1832 - 05 Nov 1912. On 18 Mar 1855, he 
married Rebecca P. VanCleve, 11 Feb 1831 - 21 Jan 1864. On 30 Oct 1864, he 
married Jane Carroll, 10 Jan 1839 - 16 Oct 1866. She was the daughter of 
Edward and Jane (Bonney) Carroll. She was also the mother of Nellie Helen 
Davis who married James Oliver Stayner. On 26 Apr 1868, he married Eliza 
Green who died in Mar 1893.
        Mary C. Davis, 03 May 1834 - 03 Sept 1854.
        John A. Davis, 17 Jun 1842 - 08 Jul 1863.
        Pheobe Davis (no statistical information) who married Elias Coleman 
on 18 Aug 1860.
        Gaylord Davis (no statistical information)
        Sarah A. Davis (no statistical information)
        Most of the above are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery, Orland, 
Steuben County, Indiana.
