STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29, 1899, page 4, column 3 WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON DAY, 26 Feb 1821 - 24 Mar 1899 DIED at his home in Moberly, Missouri, March 24, 1891, William H. H. Day, aged 78 years and 26 days. Mr. Day was born in Huron county, Ohio, February 26, 1821, and came to Fremont, in this county, in 1846, where for several years he conducted the business of wagon making. While a resident of Fremont he was known as an active, public spirited citizen, and was particularly interested in school affairs. He was mainly instrumental in establishing the first graded school in that town, and the erection of a building for the accommodation of the same. He took a prominent part in the organization and conduct of the Masonic lodge of Fremont, and during his residence in this county was a devoted member of the order. In 1859 he bought the STEUBEN REPUBLICAN which he conducted for nearly two years. In September, 1861, he enlisted in Co. G, 30th Indiana volunteers, and in April, 1863, was promoted to a lieutenancy, which he resigned in the spring of 1864. His wife, most favorably remembered by many of our older citizens, died in July, 1876, and in 1878, Mr. Day went to Moberly, Missouri, where he married again and has since lived. He leaves five children, A. F. Day, of Angola; Mrs. Augusta A. Capps, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Anna Shaffstall, of Salem; A. H. Day, of Humbolt county, Cal.; and Mrs. Clara Somers, of Carbondale, Col. Day, 04 Jan 1845 - 24 Sep 1914, married Carrie E. (Poland) Day, 04 Jun 1850 - 18 Jul 1939. He was the son of William and his 1st wife.
