STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 1900 CATHERINE (SPEICE) DIRRIM, 19 Dec 1837 - 09 Oct 1900 Catherine Spice was born in Germany Dec. 19, 1837, and died Oct. 9, 1900, aged 62 years, 10 months and 20 days. She was married to Hugh W. Dirrim August 16, 1858, and to them were born eight children, six sons and two daughters. Two sons died in infancy. A husband, four sons, two daughters and a host of friends mourn her loss. In early life she gave her heart to God and lived a most exemplary life. After several months of suffering the end came peacefully. She was ready for the summons and died with the assurance of eternal life. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mrs. C. A. Hagerman, assisted by her husband, Rev. Wm. Hagerman. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Catherine (Speice/Spice) Dirrim, 19 Dec 1837 - 09 Oct 1900, was the 1st wife of Hugh Wesley Dirrim, 13 Apr 1837 - 1924, son of James Dirrim and 2nd wife, Hannah (Gillespie) Dirrim. Hugh Wesley Dirrim's 2nd wife was Mary (Speice) Dirrim, sister of his 1st wife. They were the daughters of John Speice. Catherine and Hugh are buried at Hamilton Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILDREN: Nettie May (Dirrim) Griffin, 1872 - 02 Oct 1918, on 23 Apr 1892, married Rev. Eli B. Griffin, 01 Aug 1867 - 04 Feb 1950. They are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Orlando John Dirrim, 1860 - 1929, on 24 Dec 1881, married Frances Ellen (Rima) Dirrim, 1860 - 1938. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery. James Abraham Lincoln Dirrim, 1861 - 1936, on 02 Jul 1887, married Lucy (Quick) Dirrim, 1866 - 21 Feb 1930. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery. Clarence L. Dirrim, 1867 - 27 Jul 1942. He is buried at Hamilton Cemetery. Emma (Dirrim) Sewell, 1878 - 29 Jan 1963, on 17 Dec 1890, married John Michael Sewell, 30 Nov 1870 - 07 Jan 1945. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery.
