STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20, 1904, page 1, column 6 BETTIE (POWERS) DUNHAM, 01 Aug 1859 - 10 Apr 1904 Bettie Powers Dunham, wife of John H. Dunham and only daughter of Myron and Eliza powers (deceased), was born in York township, Steuben county, Indiana, August 1, 1859, and died at her home one-half mile west of Columbia, Ohio, at 5:30 o'clock Sunday morning, April 10, 1904, aged 44 years, 8 months and 9 days. Sept. 16, 1877, at the age of 18, deceased was united in marriage to John H. Dunham. To this union were born two children, Edwin, still at home, and Ida, now Mrs. Ray Thomas, who with the husband and one brother, Elmo Powers, survive her. In early girlhood she united with the Christian church, adhering strongly to the Faith, as was apparent when in a semi- conscious delirium she remarked, "The Lord is my Shepherd; yes, the Lord is my Shepherd." Her home life was made beautiful by devotion seldom equaled. To her own immediate family she has ever been tenderly indulgent and full of the spirit of self-sacrifice. Those who have known her best have only kind words for her memory. It is only fitting to add "She hath read the ritual right and sung the requiem well." Mts. Dunham had been complaining for several months, but not to cause alarm until Tu4sday, when she was stricken down to her bed and for five days was not free from delirium, until death by coma relieved her intense suffering. She will be mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends, and the family have the deep sympathy of the community in their irreparable loss and sad bereavement. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Elder Veach. Burial in Powers cemetery.
