John H. Dygert (NOTE: John Harvey Dygert was generally known as "Harvey Dygert" as he had a brother who was also named John.) Was born in Montgomery county, New York, March 1, 1824 and died near Fremont, Ind., March 10, 1904, aged 80 years and 9 days. Deceased came with his parents to Indiana in early youth and located in York township on the farm now owned by his brother Benjamin, he resided there with his parents until he was twenty-one. He was married Oct. 23, 1860, to Polly Bailey, who preceded him to the spirit world Jun 25, 1898. To this union was born four children, Jeremiah and John H. of Fremont township, Addie B. Stroh, of Union City, Michigan, and Almeda J. who died at the age of six months. Soon after his marriage they moved onto the farm in Scott township which he had purchased several years previously and on which they lived in loving companionship for thirty-eight. After the death of his companion he still remained on the farm with his son John, until about two years ago when he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Stroh in Fremont; he remained with her about a year when upon her removal to Quincy, Mich. he went again to live with his son John, with whom he stayed until his death. He has been a great sufferer with asthma for several years but bore his suffering with great patience. He was a kind and indulgent father, a good neighbor and a man who was well respected in the community. He leaves to mourn his death, two sons, one daughter, one grandson, three brothers and a host of other relatives. Funeral services wher held at the home Sunday, March 18 at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. Reichelderfer. Interment in the Dygert cemetery in York. Steuben Republican, 23 Mar 1904, p.1, c.4.
