STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7, 1899, page 4, column 4 SUSAN BODLEY EMERSON, 07 Jan 1823 - 05 Jun 1899 DIED at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Emerson, in Angola, Ind., June 5, 1899, Mrs. Susan Bodley Emerson, aged 76 years, and 5 months. Susan Bodley was born in Richland county, Ohio, Jan. 7, 1823, and was the oldest of a family of thirteen children. She came to Steuben county in 1843, and married John Emerson in 1844. She was one of the pioneer school teachers of the county. Her husband died in Kendallville some six years ago. The first death in her father's family was Lieut. Thomas Bodley, of Co. D, 74th Indiana, while in service. Five sisters and three brothers survive her. No children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Emerson. The remains will be taken to Kendallville for burial.
