STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 1901, pg. 1, col. 8 ALBERT H. EWING, 05 Feb 1837 - 19 Aug 1901 In the death of Albert H. Ewing, of Scott township, on the evening of Aug. 19, 1901, and of which mention was made in the REPUBLICAN last week, Steuben county lost one of her most highly esteemed citizens. Mr. Ewing was born in Niagara county, New York, Feb. 5, 1837, and in June, 1838, came with his parents to Scott township, Steuben county. In August, 1861, he enlisted in Co. A, 44th Indiana infantry, and was a faithful, brave soldier, and participated in the great battles of Fort Donelson, Shiloh and Corinth. He was married Nov. 26, 1865, to Mary Showalter and to this union were born seven children, six of whom with the wife survive him. Mr. Ewing served his township as trustee for nearly six years, and was a very efficient officer. Funeral services were held at his late home, Aug. 22, conducted by Rev. A. G. Neal, assisted by Elder C. S. Medbury. The music for the occasion was furnished by the Bodley quartette, of Angola. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Albert H. Albert married Mary (Showalter) Ewing, 20 Apr 1845 - 13 May 1918, daughter of Michael Showalter, 03 Oct 1805 - 10 Oct 1891, and Mary (Weltman) Showalter who died 17 Jan 1890, aged 76 years, 4 months and 5 days. Children: Allie Ewing, 11 Jan 1869 - 29 Sep 1919. Clara F. Ewing, born about 31 Dec 1870 - 20 Feb 1872, aged 1 year and 20 days. Brothers: Thomas Ewing, 23 Jul 1809 - 25 Aug 1841, aged 2 years, 1 month and 2 days. James B. Ewing, born about 04 Feb 1842 - 13 May 1862, aged 20 years, 3 months and 9 days. Edward A. Ewing, born about 25 Dec 1844 - 25 May 1862, aged 17 years and 6 months. All are buried at Jordan Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana, except Allie who is buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.
