STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1883, p.8, c.4 THOMAS FAILING, 20 Mar 1796 - 18 Nov 1883 On Sunday, November 18, 1883, of old age, Thomas Failing, of this township, died, aged 87 years, 7 months and 28 days. Mr. Failing enjoyed good health until last winter when he slipped on the ice and broke his hip, which has troubled him ever since. He was born in Montgomery county, New York, March 20, 1796. On the 8th day of December, 1818, he married Catherine Klock, who died about 12 years ago, at the age of 75 years, 2 months and 24 days. He was but four months and ten days her senior. Mr. Failing came to Jamestown in 1837; is the father of nine children with sixteen grand-children. Five of his children survive him, four of whom were present at his funeral. In conclusion we can but truly say one more old settler has gone. They are buried at Jamestown Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Son: Adam Failing, 1856 - 1902, married Susannah (Geedy) Failing, 25 Dec 1856 - 02 Apr 1939. They are buried at Jamestown Cemetery. Susannah's 2nd husband was Jerry Harbaugh but she is buried as Failing. Susannah was the daughter of John Geedy, 03 Oct 1824 - 00 May 1878, and Susanna (Lytle) Geedy, 19 Oct 1822 - 10 Jan 1902.
