STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1904, page 1, column 6 AVERY E. FARNHAM, 1838 - 26 Jan 1904 Avery E. Farnham was born in Steuben County, Indiana, in 1838, and died at his home in Olathe, Kansas, Jan. 26, 1904. Deceased was the only son of Erastus and Lucinda Farnham. His father was one of the pioneers of Steuben county, and was one of the best of its citizens. He was county surveyor, and his work for correctness has never been excelled. He with his wife (who was before marriage Jane Phenicie) emigrated to Kansas in 1862. They endured the privations of a new country and risked the dangers incident to the civil war, which were great in Kansas during that time. Mr. Farnham was successful in business and was highly esteemed by all who knew him as a man of strict integrity, a character above reproach.
