Funeral services conducted by Rev. J. L. Ramsey; burial in Hamilton cemetery. Mary Holton was born in Highland county, Ohio, April 7, 1811; was married to John Fee, April 9, 1833. They settled on the farm where she died in 1855. She was the first white woman in Otsego townsship. After a long life of toil and hardshsip she died surrounded by many friends and affluence. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION : Mary Ann (Houlton) Fee, 07 Apr 1811 - 06 Jan 1887, was born in Highland County, Ohio. On 09 Apr1833 in Edgerton, OH, she married John Fee, 13 Oct 1810 - 02 Apr 1873, born in Gallia County, OH. He was the first settler in Otsego Township and Mary was the first white woman in the county. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery, Steuben County, IN. At some time, Mary added Black to her last name. Mary was the daughter of one of the first settlers of Chillicothe, OH, Samuel Holton III, born 12 May 1764, died 02 Mar 1846. On 24 Mar 1795 in York City, PA, he married Rebecca (Kilgore) Houlton, 22 Aug 1872 - 21 Apr 1863. Samuel and Rebecca were buried at the Old Burying Ground at Greenfield, OH, in Madison Township, Highland County, OH. At the time of John and Mary's marriage in 1838, Mary was residing with her brothers, Samuel and John Holton in Williams County, OH. John Fee was the son of William W. Fee, born 1784 in Scotland; in 1804, in Scotland, he married Margaret (Collins) Fee, born 1790 in Scotland. William died in 1831. Both died in Edgerton, OH. Margaret (Collins) Fee was the daughter of Jesse L. Collins, born about 1765 in Defiance County, OH, and died 11 Aug 1811 in Williams County, OH, and Rachel (Grow) Collins, born about 1765 in PA. CHILDREN OF THE MARRIAGE OF JOHN AND MARY FEE: SON: Calvin Fee, 04 Sep 1836/37 - 07 May 1911, married 1st, Eliza (Slanders) Fee, 1839 - 1868. On 12 Apr 1869 in Steuben County, IN he married 2nd, Alta (Whiting) Fee, 1853 - 1907. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery, Steuben County, IN. DGTR: Margaret R. (Fee) Taylor Carpenter, 1843 (1849 per www.familysearch.org)- 1922. On 31 Dec 1862, married Jasper Taylor, 1842 - 1869. They had two sons. Margaret subsequently married Andrew Jackson Carpenter, 28 Jan 1843 - 1922, son of Joshua and Mary (Church) Carpenter, 1817 - 1895. Mary is buried by her son, Andrew. All are buried at Hamilton Cemetery except Joshua. SON: John Wayne Fee, 1845 -1917, born and died in Hamilton, IN. On 31 Apr 1871, he married Juliette (Cameron) Fee, 1845 - 1924. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery. DGTR: Mary Ann (Fee) Crain, 10 May 1848 (1852 per familysearch) - 03 Feb 1890. On 22 Mar 1876 she became the 1st wife of Leander Thomas Crain, 29 May 1845 -14 Mar 1926, son of Ervin John Crain Sr, born about 30 Jan 1815 - 28 Oct 1874, and Nancy (Gaylord) Case Crain , no dates. No information of Nancy Crain's burial place but the others are buried at Hamilton Cemetery. On 27 Oct 1891, Leander married Martha (George) Crain, no other information. SON: William P. Fee, 1851 (1840 per familysearch) - 1932, married Emma N. (Baxter) Fee, 1852 - 1912. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery. SON: Francis K. Fee, 06 Jul 1854 -04 Mar 1912, on 24 Jul 1877 married Josetta/Setta (Lettie on marriage license in Steuben County,IN) (Gilbert) Fee, 1856 - 192. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetry. Josetta was the daughter of Joseph A. Gilbert, 03 Aug 1825 - 04 Mar 1904, and his 1st wife whom he married on 25 Feb 1850 in Portage, OH, Martha Ann Forder, born 28 Jul 1833 in PA; died 26 Jan 1859 in Otsego , Steuben County, IN. On 17 Feb 1861, Joseph A. Gilbert married his 2nd wife, Emily C. (Case) Gilbert, born 14 Jan 1835 in Orleans County, NY; died 12 Apr 1844 in Otsego, Steuben County, IN. They are buried at North Otsego Cemetery, Steuben County, IN. DGTR: Clarinda/Clarissa (Fee) Nichols, born 1856, married in 1876 to A. L. Lot Nichols, born in 1850. No other information. SIBLINGS OF MARY ANN (HOULTON) FEE: BROTHER: Matthew Kilgore Houlton, 05 Feb 1796 - 07 Aug 1871. He is buried in Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Highland County, OH. (In the "Death Records of Highland County, OH, by David N. McBride, Published by the Southern Ohio Genealogical Society, Highland County, OH, page 318.) SISTER: Mary Ann Houlton, 08 Jul 1799 - 17 Aug 1801. This is the first Mary Ann whose burial place is unknown. BROTHER: Samuel Houlton, born 24 Oct 1801 in York County, PA. BROTHER: John Houlton, the first white settler of DeKalb County, IN, was born in Highland County, OH, 21 Sep 1804. John Houlton died on the old homestead, 02 Jun 1875. He was married 05 Feb 1833 to Sarah (Fee) Houlton who was born 12 May 1812 and died 12 Jul 1839. On 21 Nov 1839, John Houlton Married Nancy (Lewis) Houlton, 1817; died before 1894, the daughter of Samuel Lewis who was the seventh settler on the St. Joseph River. They are buried in DeKalb County, IN. BROTHER: Francis Houlton was born in Highland County, OH, 03 Feb 1807, was murdered 18 May 1879 by a neighbor boy, Lewis Abbot, who entered the house with the evident intention of murdering the entire family and plundering the house. On 06 Jan 1838 in Ross County,OH, he married Evoline/Evaline (Kellogg) Wood Houlton, 30 Jan 1807 (28 Feb per familysearch) - 14 Oct 1881. They are buried at Hamilton Cemetery.
