STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 1902, page 1, column 6 WILLIAM FOSTER, 07 Jun 1847 - 28 Apr 1902 William Foster was born in West Unity, Ohio, June 07, 1847, and died at his home in Angola, Ind., April 28, 1902, aged 54 years, 10 months and 21 days. When a boy he lived with the family of Mrs. Hannah Powers in York township for several years, attended district school, and worked on the farm in that neighborhood until October 22, 1876, when he was joined in marriage with Miss Lydia A. Robinson, who survives him. After marriage they moved to their farm in Scott township, lived there fourteen years and then moved to Angola which was his home until death. He was a member of I. O. O. F. at Metz, joined Heaton Encampment at Angola, August 6, 1886, and became a charter member of Angola Canton, April 27, 1887. He was industrious and strictly temperate, and advocated the cause of temperance on all occasions. He leaves to mourn their loss, the wife, to whom he was devoted and kind; two brothers, James and Frank, four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Bassett, Mrs. Mary Bassett, Mrs. Emma Hawley and Mrs. Maggie Barns, and a large circle of friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held today, April 30, at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian church in Angola, Elder C. S. Medbury officiating. Burial at Powers church in York under the auspices of the Odd Fellows lodge at Metz.
