STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 1880, p.8, c.3. JOHN FRENCH, 08 Jun 1815 - 03 Oct 1880 The Rev. John French died very suddenly at about 3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, aged 66 years. He attended church in the morning at Ray, felling usually well. Just before he got home he was taken with a cramp in the stomach and lived only about thirty minutes after he got out of the buggy. Elder John French has long been identified with the Covenanter church at this place as its pastor. He was a man of ability, strong will, a fine speaker and a good christian man. He has been in feeble health for some time. He leaves a wife, two children and a host of friends to mourn his death. "Soothed and sustained by an unfaltering trust, he approached the grave like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams." ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Rev.
